Institute of Volunteering Research launches free research database

Evidence Bank, with 200 entries, set up by research arm of Volunteering England. A database of volunteering research has been launched by the Institute for Volunteering Research, the research arm of Volunteering England. According to the institute, its free Evidence Bank contains about 200 entries, including all public reports produced by the research organisation since 1997. It plans eventually to extend the database to list third party work as well. Read the full story here
Orange calls for 'mobile volunteering' ideas

Mobile telecoms firm Orange will launch a phone application that enables users to take part in ‘mobile volunteering’ for charities. Orange will ask its customers to suggest ways in which people could use their mobile phones to help charities. It will then choose the 10 best ideas and include them on its ‘volunteering app’, which will be launched later this year.

2011 to be the European Year of Volunteering
The European Commission has decided to propose that 2011 be designated the "European Year of Volunteering". The Council is expected to endorse this decision, after the European Parliament has been consulted, by the beginning of next year.
