► Structure
The governance model in place at Liverpool Guild of Students as of 1 August 2008 is an executive (decision making) Trustee Board, advised by a Student Council. The Student Council is in turn advised by other groups. The aim of the system is to ensure that the Trustee Board has as much information about the student experience and student opinion as possible to help it set the strategic direction of the organisation, and to offer students a variety of ways to enage with its governance. The Trustee Board has overall responsibility for the management and administration of LGoS, fulfilling this by setting the overall strategic direction and directly managing the Chief Executive. Management and administration on a day-to-day basis is therefore delegated to the Chief Executive and the staff team. Progress on meeting the strategic aims is monitored by the Trustee Board, at meetings of which the Senior Management Team will present reports and updates on their departments. The principle purpose of the Student Council is to advise the Trustee Board on the strategic direction LGoS should be taking, based on the opinions and views of students. The Advisory Groups advise the Student Council, and thereby the Trustee Board, on the strategic direction of LGoS with respect to matters of equality and diversity or student activity. The various representatives will gather student opinion, either working separately or together, convene their working group, and convene forums as necessary or appropriate, in order to submit recommendations to the Student Council. Working groups help the relevant advisory group advise the Student Council on the strategic direction of LGoS by gathering information, making recommendations and conducting research and analysis in a specific area. Overview and scrutiny committees consider matters of a strategic nature, such as the future of competitive sport or the way in which LGoS communicates with students, in order to inform the strategic direction of LGoS and make a positive difference. Community forums gather student opinion by considering issues raised by students, the Trustee Board and Student Council; major University initiatives; reports on the work of LGoS; and reports from outside agencies, amongst other things.
