Student Councillors are elected in two cross campus elections, as of March 2010. With half being elected in the Spring term, and the remaining councillors elected in the Autumn term - this is to ensure that LGoS has a council to consult over the summer break, and so that those starting in September have the opportunity to run for council in their first year.
Any student at the University of Liverpool on any programme can run for council, and the elections are a fascinating and exciting event cherished by many.
The count sheets for our elections, where available can be found on this page, along with the details of previous guild councils.
For more information about running in any of our elections go to www.lgos.org/elections
Student Council 2009-10
Student Council nominations were closed on 9th Oct 2009. There were 28 applications for 30 places, and so all the candidates were elected unopposed.
Student Council training was held on Wednesday 21st Oct, run by Nick Berg – a prominent figure in the Student Union sector. Following this, at the meeting Council then elected from amongst itself in an open vote; the Chair of Student Council – Daniel Colquitt; the Equality & Diversity Convenor – Patrick Murray; and a Student Activities Convenor – Kashif Anwari. Due to time constraints, Council decided to elect its other positions the following day at the first Student Council debate, or failing that through an email ballot.
The 22nd Oct saw the fist Student Council debate – “the Future of Politics in Britain”; chaired by Daniel Colquitt. The panel members were representatives from the major political parties – Stephen Twigg, Labour; Esther McVey, Conservatives; Colin Eldridge, Liberal Democrats; Steve Radford, Liberals and Tom Crone, Greens. The debate was a great success with many interesting & stimulating contributions from both the panel & the floor, which consisted of Student Council & members of the student body. Student Council would like to thank the panel for agreeing to attend & hope that they enjoyed the debate. A video of the debate will be uploaded onto the LGoS website shortly.
