Scrutiny Panels

What is Scrutiny & why do we need it?

Scrutiny is the process by which work & activity undertaken by the Guild is examined by its members.

According to our Bye Laws; there shall be up to four Scrutiny Panel at any one time, coordinated by the Student Council.

The purposes of Overview & Scrutiny committees shall be to:

review performance and make recommendations on the future scope of a current activity or service; conduct research and consultation; consider mechanisms for widening membership participation; scrutinise decisions of Trustees; and scrutinise objectives, targets, and service areas of the Guild.

Good scrutiny:

·         provides ''critical friend'' challenge to policy-makers and decision-makers

·         enables the voice and concerns of our members and their communities to be heard

·         is carried out by ''independent minded students'' who lead and own the scrutiny process

·         drives improvement in services at the Guild
